Make Your Spring Break Memorable, Even on a Budget

School is almost out for Spring Break, but what’s your plan? While some feel the need to plan elaborate, brag-worthy vacations, that doesn't mean you have to in order to have a good time. Sure, planning a week-long getaway somewhere exotic sounds heavenly compared to the winter blue views outside your window, but what do you do if you haven’t set aside the cash? Staying home and spending a little time in your own backyard with friends and family can not only save you money, but also be a blast, especially if you follow these tips:

1. Partake in Free Events in Your City

Free events are all over your city. Find a variety of no-cost activities such as visiting museums, exploring local parks or checking out trendy local neighborhoods. Look for events in your local newspaper and you’ll be sure to find something you and your family will enjoy.

2. Find Usual Activities at Lower Costs

Deals are everywhere, especially around spring break. If you’re going to the movies, choose to go to a matinee, or see what discount apps like Groupon have to offer.

3. Travel Somewhere Locally "Exotic”

Local small towns definitely have their charm, from special sites to festivals. Make a day trip out of local sightseeing, it doesn’t have to be costly and it can be a lot of fun for you and your family.

4. Celebrate “Me” for the Day

Spend time with your family and strengthen relationships by designating a day specifically for each family member. Have them select an activity that they want to do that fits within your budget. This is also a great opportunity to teach children about money- tell them how much they can spend for the day and see what type of activity they find.

5. Make Staying Home Fun

Avoid boredom at home with activities that differ from your everyday routine. Spend the afternoon with DIY projects, have a movie marathon, teach you kids important skills around the house like the ins and outs of executing a meal. The possibilities here truly are endless.

As you can see, having the ultimate Spring Break at home can be fun and extremely rewarding. You won’t break your budget and you can make it a week that is just as memorable as that over-priced vacation. Come Monday when you and your family return to school and work, you all will feel relaxed and ready to make it to Summer.
