This month, Transformance is taking Pocket Change USA from one coast to the other.
Brandon Fitzgerald, Director of Business Development, will present the financial education nonprofit’s new smartphone app at FinCon 2016 in San Diego, Calif. A few days later, Transformance President and CEO Ken Goodgames will be an invited speaker at the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) annual conference in Washington, D.C.
Both men will have an opportunity to bring awareness to Transformance and Pocket Change USA on a national stage.
“I am humbled and excited to have the opportunity to highlight Pocket Change USA at the upcoming NFCC conference in Washington DC. My hope is that it will encourage greater support of the work we do at Transformance and ultimately drive people to download the app for use as a part of their daily lives,” said Ken Goodgames, President and CEO of Transformance. “Pocket Change USA is about taking personal financial literacy and coaching to the next level of consciousness for our target audience.”
Goodgames is excited and honored to be among this year’s NFCC speakers. Since he joined Transformance just over 20 months ago, he has made significant changes to the nonprofit agency, including a rebranding and a shift in business focus. Goodgames has overseen an expansion of services, renovations and repurposing of agency assets, and the creation of new strategic partnerships designed to make a collective impact on North Texas communities.
Goodgames has also been a champion of technological innovation and promoting financial education through gamification. His experience with NogginLabs, a Chicago-based digital solutions firm, led to the creation of Pocket Change USA – a first for Transformance – and a unique way to connect those in need with services that can help. The app is designed to increase financial knowledge, reinforce good money habits, and enable users to engage with financial coaches online or in person.
Recently, Pocket Change USA was awarded a 2016 Brandon Hall Excellence Award, earning silver in the “Best Use of Mobile Learning” category. The app has also earned high praise from a number of online review sites.

At FinCon, Fitzgerald will face a room of financial writers, bloggers and media – hundreds of voices who can carry the Transformance message to millions. While most of the attendees focus on personal financial coaching and wealth management, issues related to economic growth and increasing the public’s financial knowledge are often discussed. The keynote speaker is Clark Howard, nationally renowned best-selling author, radio host and consumer expert advocate. Other featured speakers include NBC Today Show financial editor Jean Chatzky; J.D. Roth, founder of Get Rich Slowly; and Liz Weston, columnist for NerdWallet.
Fitzgerald is eager to participate in those conversations and gain insight into which efforts to reduce poverty are working in other parts of the country.
“Connecting with those who need our services most is a perennial challenge made more complex with changes in technology and the nature of the workforce. Though the challenges are familiar, people experience them, talk about them, and solve them in different ways than they did even 10 years ago,” Fitzgerald said. “[FinCon attendees] are in the trenches working to make a difference, and they are finding novel ways to leverage technology and communication in order to engage with those who need assistance. This is where the secret sauce is made; we want to sample what these chefs are cooking.”
As a finalist in the conference’s FinTech competition, Pocket Change USA will be reviewed and demonstrated to a panel of judges. Transformance is among a dozen national organizations promoting a new app or technological solution. Fitzgerald will present the overall objectives of Pocket Change USA, offer highlights, then be available for any questions.
Whether the app wins the competition or not, Fitzgerald believes the conference will be a success due to the exposure Pocket Change USA will gain.
“Wouldn’t it be wonderful to take home the top prize? That would be great, but our end goal is to increase awareness for and utilization of Pocket Change USA,” he said.
