Dozens of volunteers distributed more than 7,500 pounds of food Saturday, Nov. 12, at the annual Sandy May Baskets of Blessings event at the K.B. Polk Recreation Center in Dallas.
More than 100 families from the North Park neighborhood, east of Dallas Love Field, were given food bags and a turkey as part of the annual Thanksgiving giveaway, sponsored by Transformance and Services of Hope. Nearly 50 volunteers spent the day assembling food bags, then distributing them to community members.
The event is named in honor Sandy May, one of the founders of Services of Hope. A restauranteur, May was committed to feeding the homeless and those in need. She died in 2010 after battling breast cancer.
